Keywords German dialects northern Moravia Prussian and Austrian Silesia Austrianisms Silesian an Upper German lexicon words borrowed from Czech lexical and phonological differentiation
Description The German dialects om prthern Moravia and Silesia, an those in the former Prussian Silesia have been regarded in specialist literature up to the present as a single entity. However, based solely on lexis, it is possible to prove that the dialects on the Austrian side differ from those on the Prussian side in the number of Austrianisms, inte proportian of Silesian and Upper German elements in the lexicon, and in the number of words borrowed from Czech. There seems to be a need for a more detailed lexical and phonological differentiation than there has been up to the present.
