Keywords marriage drafting the new Czech Civil Code
Description In the course of drafting the new Czech Civil Code it was debated wheter religious marriage should be preserved as an equal alternative to civil marriage. This important debate concerning values continued when the basic principles of private law were formulated and when it was considered whether marriage should be one of the institutions to be given strengthened protection in the Civil Code. The institution of marriage had always been protected in Czech law as a constitutional value, a large number of European countries continue to protect marriage in thier constitutions.
