Description | Idiopathic epiretinal membrane in macular region is relatively common cause of visual acuity drop in population of subjects older than 50 years. Main purpose of this study was to evaluate effectiveness of treatment of this disease by pars plana vitrectomy. All 57 subjects were treated by standard 3-port 20G pars plana vitrectomy. For staining of epiretinal membrane was used Membrane blue (TM). All membranes were removed completely. Intraocular tamponade was used regarding to intraoperative finding. In subject with senile cataract was performed combined operation (phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation and pars plana vitrectomy). Pars plana vitrectomy with regards to our results seems to be effective method for treatment of idiopathic macular epiretinal membranes. Complications that occurred were easy treatable (peripheral retinal breaks, complicated cataract). Serious complications (retinal detachment, endophthalmitis) were not observed. |
