Description | The Story of Charlemagne forms a very interesting and unique chapter in the Carolingian Epopee by Julius Zeyer, a Czech writer of the second half of the 19 century. It is the first part of a great cycle about Charlemagne; simultaneously, it is also a comprehensive and independent narrative with fairy-tale features. The search for sources of inspiration for this part of Zeyer s works in French literature was a great adventure. Finally, we did manage to reveal the majority of sources that led the Czech author to create a fairy-tale chronicle of the Emperor s family in which an important role is played by women. |
