Description | The aim of the text is to explain the original background and conditions of the emergence of pragmatism. The text traces four phases of it. Firtsly, the philosophical system of the most important American early-modern philosopher - Jonathan Edwards - is examined. In this system, we can note great stress on relationality of ontology. Secondly, the author focuses on Emerson's work that helped American thinkers to cross the Calvinist dogma of predestination. The third phase was created by the arrival of Hegelianism into North America, which enable Americans tom grasp the reality of experience as a flux of ongoing historical stages. The last phase was represented by the "Metaphysical Club" that introduced important instrument of the pragmatist philosophy - "fluid principles". This "melting pot" create originality of the important non-European philosophy. |
