Description | Confocal microscopy is a non-invasive method for the investigation semicontact illustrate the various layers of the cornea in vivo at high resolution. It can be used for diagnosis of ultrastructural changes in patients with corneal dystrophies or ectatic degeneration, to monitor the recovery process after corneal refractive surgery or transplantology. The method is also helpful to monitor the effectiveness of treatment for acute or chronic stages of keratitis and helps to distinguish the differential diagnosis of etiological agents. With konfocal microscopy can monitor changes in long-term wearers of contact lenses, or in patients with diabetes mellitus and neuropathy. Scanning is performed in topical anesthesia after applying the gel to the front of the lens of inquiry. Among the limiting factors include lnon-cooperation of the patients, time for examintation and erudition investigating. Interesting findings from clinical practice will be presented. |
