Description Purine based DNA/RNA bases adenine (6-aminopurine) and guanine (2-aminopurin-6- one), serve in live bodies as building blocks of high physiological importance. For in vitro research applications they are replaced by 2-aminopurine and 2,6-diaminopurine. These aminopurines are used either “free” as replacements for adenine/guanine in nucleic acid strands or are subject to further derivatization and use (e.g. enzyme function research [1]). Despite their frequent use, very few is known about the substances’ physico-chemical properties. We studied acid-base properties of 2-aminopurine and 2,6-diaminopurine with use of advanced chemometric tools applied to UV/Vis spectroscopy data and since the 2- aminopurine is highly fluorescent, fluorescence spectroscopy data, too.
