| Description | In the field of regional development, increasing attention is currently paid to the development of the knowledge economy, where the emphasis is among others placed on technology transfer. Technology transfer is based on cooperation between the scientific and commercial sectors and specialised agencies assist in this process. This paper is focused on identifying the essential characteristics of technology transfer and its aim is not only to assess the current situation and level of technology transfer in the South Moravian Region but also to find out whether there are any barriers to its further development and eventually to specify possible solutions. The key findings are the problems that can be seen in the present system supporting the technology transfer with the fact that these problems have ultimately a national rather than regional character. It was confirmed that the tertiary education sector and the sector of public research is to a considerable extent isolated from the application sphere. |
