Description | This journal article presents the main objectives of the course of Cultural Studies for Teachers of English. The objectives are outputs of a research into study of culture in relation to English teaching. The course emphasizes cultural and linguistic diversity and underlines as erroneous the idea of uniformity of English language and cultural homogeneity of its users. Apart from the issues and questions who is the native speaker in todays global and multicultural world and how an Afroamerican dialect differs from the standard form of American English, students learn to analyse the influence of national, ethnic, and cultural identity on styles of communication and learning strategies. The aim is to enhance students intercultural awareness and improve their cultural-communicative competence in use of English in intercultural settings. |
