Description | The chapter asks: “How do the coping with the dilemma between clerical loyalty and empathic help and the advisors interest in controlling changes in organization interrelate at the selected labor market office?” Using action research case study the authors identify the dilemma between “helping clients to tackle living problems and risking implications of lack of loyalty on the one hand and processing job candidates in official manner and conceal the wish to be empathic helper on the other hand” and the way of coping with this dilemma consisting in rationing different kinds of help to the four kinds of clients – those “who definitely refuse”, “who have no chance”, “active” and “agonized”. The advisors justify this rationing by the wisdom: “You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink!” Based on their personal experience they "ration" different “mixtures” of official processing and helping to specific groups of clients. Hence they question about changes that inhibit this way of rationing. |
