Description | The chapter is dedicated to the robot as a figure of modernist myth of progress. From this perspective we will look at both robots in Karel Čapeks play R.U.R. and their successors in robotic art. The robot in art does not mean anymore the same thing as in the beginning of the 20th century, but his function remaining the same: He enable us to articulate social, political and generally human problems. The robotic art is a counterbalance for dominant tendencies in our culture, in which machines, this time information and communication technologies, play even more important role then in the before. |
