| Description | Organizing The National Gallery of Moravia exhibition (2011) provided an opportunity for a new look at the history of the collections in today’s Moravian Gallery in Brno from the period before 1961, when the gallery was founded. The article presents some of the leading figures and describes the circumstances that gradually contributed to attaining an independent status for the picture gallery of the Francis, and later Moravian, Museum from its actual foundation in 1817. It highlights the fact that ideas of establishing independent gallery institutions in Brno emerged as early as after the year 1900. |
