Description Erectile dysfunction (ED) and coronary artery disease (CAD) have the same morphological base – endothelial dysfunction as a first stage of atherosclerosis. ED and CAD have the same risk factors, as a hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, obesity, age, smoking and sedentary lifestyle. The time interval among the onset ED symptoms and the occurence of CAD symptoms and cardiovascular events is estimated at 2 – 3 years and 3 – 5 years respectively. ED is associated with increased all-cause mortality primarily due to increased cariovascular mortality. We should also actively screen these patients and treat them effectively.
