Description The following chapter presents the form and distribution of pauses in spoken texts as a criterion to define the authenticity of these texts and illustrates it on the basis of the analysis of two text examples. Furthermore, the results of an exemplary study that was based on this analytical principle are presented and discussed. The objective of this study was to investigate if learners of German detect a non-authentic spoken text and if they mention the form and the distribution of pauses as a reason for their classification of the text.
