| Description | Ekmelic music is a special type of reflection of the tonal system. The term „ekmelic music“ designates the acoustic phenomena which are not contained in the twelve-tone equally tempered series but are still a natural component of various types of harmony and interpretation of music within as well as outside Europe. This music was developed primarily in the 1970s and 1980s. The initial wave of enthusiasm and interest gradually receded in the 1990s. This kind of musical thinking was developed at the Department for Fundamental Study of Music (Abteilung für musikalische Grundlagenforschung), which was established in 1972 at the Mozarteum (Universität Mozarteum, Salzburg) by composers Franz Richter Herf and Rolf Maedel. |
