Description | Various surveillance and monitoring systems are widely used to monitor the operation of various objects, ranging from a single computer application device to large infrastructures such asenterprise-size computer networks, virtual environments, or intelligent buildings. The systems help operators to monitor performance, detect faults, prevent outages, identify bottlenecks, and discover external and internal threats. Next generation monitoring systems allow to detect unusual, unpredictable behavior, such as frauds, and are able to adopt on changes. Monitoring systems are mostly based on observing temporal characteristics in the series of events, e.g. netflow records in computer networking or values from temperature measurements in rooms. To disclose certain patterns in such series, Complex event processing techniques can be employed. The talk will show selected application cases where also an integrated approach using multi-domain data is applied. Finally, prospective extension towards simulation of the monitored infrastructures will be presented. |
