Human embryonic stem cells (hESC) are able to differentiate into every cell type in the human body (e.g., neural, cardiac, or retinal cells), which may then be the basis for cell therapies. Our aim is to examine how substrate used for derivation of hESC influences their differentiation propensity, which is critical for the potential application of hESC in a clinical setting. Here, we study the capacity of hESC derived on different substrates to produce cells of all three embryonal lineages.
