The proposed research project focuses on lesbian parenting. The topic has not been thoroughly examined within the Czech scientific discourse yet. However, there are research findings indicating increasing interest in parenting among lesbian women. The project is designed as a follow-up study of the applicant´
s doctoral project. Its main objective is to contribute to understanding of parenting experience and family functioning across diverse lesbian family arrangements. In particular, it is to identify and examine the specifics of the transition to parenthood with a special regard to its partial aspects (key moments and events) of the decision-making process lining the women´s path to parenthood. Special attention is to be paid to recapturing the process of meanings constructions and its outcomes via which lesbian mothers describe and explain their own parenting experience. We are determined to scrutinize the phenomenon from the perspective of the subject, i.e. we endeavor to depict how lesbian mothers themselves understand and conceptualize their parenting. The project is empirically based on a qualitative research using semi-structured interviews, focus group and participant observation. The acquired data will be
processed according to the principles of interpretative phenomenological analysis approach. Results will be compared with similar foreign studies and special attention will be paid to findings specific to Czech socio-cultural context.
