The purpose of the present project of the Department of Linguistics and Baltic studies of Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University is first to map the Baltic mythology, i.e. all, what is known about mythology of Lithuanians, Latvians and ancient Pruthenians, on the basis of foklore, chronicles, onomastics etc. After this descriptive step the comparative phase should follow, in agreement with the methods of the comparative Indo-European mythology, which itself is based on the traditon of the comparative historical Indo-European linguistics. We suppose the output in the form of publication of "Encyclopedia of the Baltic mythology", consisting of two parts: 1. Sources and their analysis, 2. Glossar of the proper names with descriptions of the mythological personages, toponyms etc. Let us mention that there is none general or special study devoted to the Baltic mythology in the traditon of Czech Baltic studies till the present time.
