The project examines national political systems, primarily focusing on countries in the European
Union. The project has been motivated by the fact that although there has been intense
development in the studies of the supranational dimension of the EU's political system in the Czech
Republic in recent years, the scale of changes of individual national political systems has not been
at the forefront of these studies. Czech political science still lacks a synthesizing overview of
political systems in European countries. Political and constitutional institutions of national states
have recently been going through significant changes. The form of and changes in their positions
and roles will be captured in the project from a comparative perspective. Attention will be paid not
only to current development but also to historical perspective which is important for explaining the
difference between "old" and "new" EU member countries.
