The “Hot and Energetic Universe” is one of the most interesting areas of astrophysics and also one of European Space Agency‘s top priorities in its Cosmic Vision. It includes the study of the hot gaseous atmospheres permeating massive galaxies and clusters of galaxies, accreting black holes, enormous stellar explosions called gamma ray-bursts (GRBs), gravitational wave signals, etc. Most of the energetic photons emitted by these phenomena are absorbed by the Earth‘s atmosphere and thus need to be observed by space observatories. The lecture will be focused on cutting edge space-based high-energy astrophysics at Masaryk University performed using both large space observatories and new innovative nanosatellites partially developed in collaboration with the budding space industry in Brno.
