Public service media (PSM) face serious challenges that undermine its legitimacy, including digitization, fragmentation, populism, politicization, polarization, economic pressure, disinformation, and declining public confidence. As a result, social consensus regarding its role is falling apart. This project builds on the international discussion about the changing position of PSM and it examines, in the context of these changes, how Czech society evaluates the current functioning of PSM, how it perceives the public value it brings, and what it expects for the future. Using a mixed research design (e.g., interviews, questionnaires, content analyses), the perspectives of three stakeholders are analyzed: the public (i.e., PSM client and funder); political actors, including PSM council members (i.e., those who set the institutional framework for PSM and oversee its functioning); and PSM journalists and managers (i.e., the PSM content creators). The project will provide an empirically based analysis for possible common ground upon which a future consensus for Czech PSM can stand.
