The present project comprises original research, processing of existing data and evaluation of all information pertinent to the occurrence and distribution of fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals within the territory of the extended Pálava Biosp here Reserve of UNESCO. In addition to the actually protected area, this territory includes a unique landscape complex between Lednice and Valtice as well as a natural floodplain ecosystem of the Dyje and Morava Rivers confluence in the region of Lanžhot . The project develops an already completed project of the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic No. 206/93/2053 "Biomonitoring of the Invertebrates in Terrestrial Ecosystems in Southern Moravia" (LAŠTŮVKA 1994, ROZKOŠNÝ & VAŇHARA 1995-1996) and an actual project by the same researchers No. 206/96/0997, a part of which three volumes of Folia Fac. Sci. Nat. Univ. Masarykianae Brunensis were published and further two are under preparation. An analogous actual project concerns the aquatic invertebrate fauna
