Description The paper deals with the presence of theme of handicap in twenty four contemporary readers for basic school (edited by Didaktis, Fraus, Nová škola and Prodos). It notes the presence of texts with the handicapped characters, texts with the connected motives (disease, death) and their forms in readers for different classes. The author states that the frequency of texts about characters with physical or mental handicap is not great in analysed textbooks, but their likeness accords with pupils age specialities and it makes the reception of fictitious situations as a model with wider interpretation possibilities possible.
