Keywords AmpC - ESBL - Gram-negative bacteria - urinary tract infection
Description Using modified DDST (double disk synergy test) for inducible AmpC and test with oxacilin as an inhibitor of AmpC we detected AmpC producers in urine samples from patiens with urinary tract infections. Gram-negative bacteria resistant to cephalosporins of 3rd generation and ESBL negative were choosed. Also bacterial susceptibility to amikacin, piperacillin with tazobactam, cefoperazon with sulbactam, imipenem, meropenem and colistin were tested in all AmpC hyperproducers. Altoghether 119 strains were tested (68 strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae, 20 strains of Escherichia coli and 12 strains of Enterobacter aerogenes). We detected 38 AmpC hyperproducers (17 strains of K. pneumoniae, 10 strains of E. coli and 4 strains of E. aerogenes), 32 inducible AmpC producers (21 K. pneumoniae strains, 6 Morganella morganii strains and 3 E. aerogenes strains) and 2 strains of K. pneumoniae simultanously producing ESBL and AmpC. AmpC hyperproducers were quite susceptible to cefepim (84.2 %) as well as to carbapenems.
