Description The paper presents one way of map skills and knowledge acquirement (map reading, analysis interpretation, making and application of map) that should be achieved by pupils of basic school. Using Geographic Information Systems potential and an interactive table as a teaching equipment of current education is one way of teaching in geography. It enables an active work with cartographic material. Geography teacher has the possibility to keep the didactic principles along with using modern information technologies mentioned above and to train pupils for geographical knowl-edge and skills with emphasis on their understanding, analysis, evaluation and practical application. The paper was elaborated within research project MUNI/41/098/2009, Evaluation of Selected Map Skills Development Within the Use of Geo-information Technologies in Geography Teaching at Basic School that is financially supported in 2009 by the Faculty of Education MU.
