Description The paper deals with the presence of new Czech literature for children and youth - published since the 1990s - in textbooks for primary school. Forty six redaers from three periods are analysed and certain basic trends are defined. It is claimed that the number of new texts in readers is rising. J. Žáček, Z. Svěrák, M. Kratochvíl, I. Březinová, I. Procházková, M. Drijverová are counted among the most frequent authors. The preferred genres tend to be modern poetry, song lyrics, realistic stories with handicapped or social disabled characters and educational texts. Most of the texts in readers from contemporary literature are closed units with good interpretative possibilities but less potentiality of readers motivation.
