When do I face expulsion from my studies?
A student who has been admitted to study as a result of his/her fraudulent behaviour will be expelled from the study (Section 67 of the Higher education act).
Another possible reason for expulsion is a disciplinary offence, which is in particular:
- any form of cheating, copying or otherwise illicitly aiding another student at exams, etc.,
- passing off someone else's work or part of it as one's own (plagiarism),
- violation of the rules for using the university computer network,
- use of alcoholic beverages and other addictive substances on MU premises,
- any other violations of obligations, rules or prohibitions issued by an authorized body of the university or faculty.
How is the punishment for a disciplinary offence decided?
The disciplinary offence and the possibilities of its punishment are defined in Section 64–67 of the Higher education act and Disciplinary misdemeanours and sanctions, which regulate the conditions of disciplinary proceedings.
The decision to punish a student is always made by the Faculty Disciplinary Committee. The committee has 4 or 6 members, half of whom are student representatives. In less serious cases, the committee may issue a warning to the student or decide to suspend the student from studies.
