Suitable magnetic liquids will be synthesized, e.g., by coprecipitation of Fe2+ and Fe3+ salts in alkaline medium, with controlled surface coverage by various stabilizing layers changing hydrophilic/hydrophobíc properties. Monodisperse stimuli-responsive polymer micro- and nanoparticles encapsulating magnetic colloid will be synthesized by (mini)emulsion and dispersion copolymerization of hydrophilic monomers with temperature and/or pH-sensitive comonomer. Multistep swelling and polymerization withprecip itation of magnetic iron oxides inside the porous rnatrix will be also used. Resulting particles will be characterized in terms of morphology, particle size and distribution, iron content, behavior in water and common solvents. Magneticcharacteristics of initial magnetic liquids and subsequently formed polymer supports will be measured in terms of optimum magnetic separation.
