This project aims to deliver an evidence-based and theory-driven understanding of how Czech audiences, producers and distributors engage with popular content received from non-authorized online sources in terms of practices and ethics, and to interpret the practices and ethics within the broader picture of relations between the involved groups of actors. The research aspect of the project employs a two-step design utilizing qualitative methods which will produce a detailed understanding of the practices of the actors, enabling the formulation of grounded hypotheses, which in turn, will then be tested by a quantitative survey of the Czech 18+ population. The second part of the project focuses on the relevance of the conclusions of the empirical research for a normative project related to the ethics of copying. The aim is to formulate the methodological background for an applied ethics of copying that would enable interdisciplinary cooperation across empirical disciplines (descriptive ethics) and applied ethics (normative ethics).
