Gram positive cocci represent a phylogenetically very heterogeneous bacterial group with a high phenotypic variability inside species complicating their identification. The strains of Gram positive cocci isolated from human clinical materials as pathogens will be studied in this project. The lactic acid bacteria from sepsis (mainly Leuconostoc and Pediococcus genera which are naturally resistant to vancomycin), methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolated from nosocomial infections and multiresistant strains of Staphylococcus sciuri complex from human infections (natural reservoir of mecA gene) will be analysed. The main aim of the project is application of modern molecular methods based on genome analysis and their using for quick and reliable identification of mentioned pathogens and development of new methods for their molecular typing. Moreover, all isolates will be characterised by biotyping, antibiograms and whole-cell protein profiles analysis. The detailed taxonomic classifica
